Transient Being, 1987 - 2021

Library Gardens, Whanganui, New Zealand

The sculpture, carved in 1987, was first exhibited at The New Art Centre, Dorset, UK then at Chumleigh Gardens in Burgess Park, London before being placed in the foyer of New Zealand House in London’s Haymarket in 2000 where it remained for the next 20 years. In 2020 the work was gifted to the city of Whanganui, New Zealand, the artists home town. The site chosen for it’s permanent location was in the library gardens situated on the historic hill of Pukenamu in the centre of the city. The sculpture was subsequently disassembled and freighted to New Zealand. Once reassembled and placed on a new base of Oamaru stone, the central section of the sculpture was completely re-carved insitu to help ‘locate’ the work in it’s new surroundings.

It was unveiled on the 13th May 2021.
